Bamboo Snake Katana – €990

BSK01

The BushiSwords Bamboo Snake katana is a beautiful hand-forged Japanese sword. It is made of high-quality 1095 carbon steel and is differentially hardened. This makes the Bamboo Snake katana extremely suitable for cutting exercises (tameshigiri). It is folded 10 times into 1024 layers, which gives its blade a fantastic appearance.

In addition, we have also differentially hardened the Bamboo Snake katana. We use a traditional clay method for this. Clay is placed over the back edge of the sword. When the sword comes out of the oven and is cooled, the clay on the back will ensure that the back of the sword cools down more slowly. The cutting edge cools down very quickly. This creates a cutting edge that is very hard and a back edge that is flexible. This, in combination with the kobuse lamination, makes this a strong sword, suitable for cutting exercises.

The Bamboo Snake katana is then polished by hand in no less than 14 different steps. This makes the hamon (the forging line) and the pattern of the folding stand out very nicely.

The blade is forged in Shinogi Zukuri style. The sword is finished with high-quality fittings in snake motif, which give this katana its name. The tsuka (handle) has real rayskin (Samegawa) and is wrapped with black ito. The full tang construction is secured with two mekugi (bamboo pins). The sword can be disassembled. The saya (sheath) is made of hardwood. A high-quality sageo is wrapped around the kurigata (knob on the sheath).
